Branching out just a bit from the my usual three dimensional felted friends, I've been enjoying some good old fashioned embroidery lately.
Noticing that a certain little pillow that I so awesomely knitted a cover for quite a few years ago was never, and I mean never used, I wondered out loud to my youngest why was this? "Oh, because it' s soo itchy" ::wiggling uncomfortably:: conveying her point fully.
Nuff said, I wasted no time ripping those seams apart, and sending those precious knitted squares off to the wash to be cleaned and await there "itchy" destiny elsewhere. Then the real fun begins, selecting some soft hemp for the upper, a bit of an earthy print for the bottom, some leftover denim that was astoundingly the perfect fit for the back, and some vintage and thrifted buttons, I set to work seaming the pieces.
For the embroidery, I haven't had much luck with transfer pens and things like that instead I like to use tracing paper. So I sketched out a quick little sitting pistachio, traced the image onto tracing paper, cut it out and pinned it directly to the fabric. Then I sew right through the paper and once the design was complete just tore the paper away. With some vintage tapestry wool I free-hand embroidered the grass and leaves. This little pillow cover has been so much fun designing and creating now I know I have another blank pillow form somewhere around here..I'll let you know how the next one turns out :)
