*sneak peak*

.. just a taste of some of the new designs I've been working on.
I've been playing around in the studio and having a lot of fun (sometimes too much) trying out some new ideas on some of my favorite felted friends. This little lady is a fanciful version of your favorite and mine tofu the giraffe. With a magical twist.
;)
Now my original goal of getting these new designs into my etsy shop by the end of this month has been extended due to computer issues ..can we say...fried motherboard? ::sigh::
Well, thank goodness for internet phones, hooray!
So, for now I'll just have to settle on sharing some eye candy with you as I progress with all this fantastical fun-ness ;) but just until we get back on track, and I can send some of these friends home to you :)

a piece of trash?

Maybe some of us would say that a tiny 3 x 4 scrap of cereal box cardboard is a piece of trash, or elevated it a bit to be recycled into another paper product. I however saw a super cute & tiny, Adorable Puzzle, just the perfect thing to keep all those little sets of hands that are always visiting my studio, busy. Turns out to be equally enjoyable for larger hands as well. :)
Happy Thursday everyone!

grand plans

Over the last week I've been a busy bee cutting into my sweater stash I brought over from the mainland. Lots of breaks and deep breathing were necessary, as I cut every sweater and some of my most favorite heavenly cashmere into tiny bits using up every last inch. The good news: I now am in process of sewing up this stack of friends destined for my shop at the end of the month. The bad news: I now have empty sweater crates and the very limited thrifting for wool sweaters that I have done here on the island has not been very promising ...although I have gotten some pretty awesome dresses. ;) I'm dreaming of some open ended sewing time in my very near future where I can really focus some of this creative energy that has been building :)
What are your grand plans and dreamings today?

::tsunami -update::

Our first tsunami turned out to be less damaging than expected, waves near our home only reached 3 ft. swell just after three am. this morning.
Pulled an all nighter with the mr. listening to radio updates, and warning sirens sounding on the hour every hour right across the street, this is ..one.. tired... mama. We are all well, warm, dry and safe at home. Sending our love and well wishes to so many affected by this quake and tsunami.

Love,
natalie

birdfeeder revamped

I love this silly old bird feeder. It has out lasted so many others that have just not held up to time and mother nature. I had originally painted the top this awesome Kelly green, giving it a super fun Lincoln log look.(no before photos, sorry) That was a few years ago now, and the paint was beginning to show some signs of wear...
So, new house, new town, new island?...well, okay actually new everything, and so a new paint job was definitely in order. I was feeling a bit springy even with all our rain and storms lately, and this is what I came up with. What do you think? Kinda islandy floral, viney, with a little bit of a Mae twist ;)

making spare yarn sweaters

I always say once properly motivated anything is possible...do I believe that? Well yes on most days I do, like on days when I look at my raked over yarn stash with half skeins of this and that and see not what is left over from making various animal manes and tails but the potential for some wonderfully glorious sweaters! Yeah, I dream big I know. Well here is the first little sweater in the most lovely mustardy yellow. I am madly head over heels ::in love:: with this color.
Ah, my darling little lil, she has a love hate relationship with this sweater, no I'm serious. She literally took one look at it as I was knitting and asked what it was. Excitedly I told her "its a sweater...for you!" "...I hate it." Um, yeah.. we're working on other *power* words that will work in place of that almighty H, but sometimes I guess its just the only one for the job. So the days go by and ta da all finished! Time to choose some awesome vintage buttons, and ..you guessed it, there came that same enthusiastic opposition...to ANY button I put down. That is where the fine art of {{parental patience}} that I've been honing for over a decade comes in. See, I know that secretly she really loves everything, and buttons are her weakness if I just wait long enough, she quickly loses interest in choosing buttons and instead happily spreads them all about the room in her favorite game. Now in the time that this transition has taken I can whip out the buttons I have chosen and quickly stitch them in place. Yes! Score one for mama, it totally worked :) Enough time has passed, and now her interest has turned to more exciting things..like discovering what sister is up to in the other room, wait just what are they doing in there...
And now its time for the big reveal...
" ..you're sweater is done Lilly..."
::gasp:: ..runs over to me..." oh, I LOVE IT!"
and I love you lil ;)

a very girly weekend

Oh where the day leads sometimes!
An all out dress up, hair and make-up day... comeplete with photo shoot, and all from a simple request for curls. Cause when our hair is straight ( and both our sisters have curls) we curl it, and if its curly we straighten it, right girls ? :)

Taking a wee little break, be back next week!
