on the needles
Knitting, spinning and then, more knitting. I'm no stranger to times of change, jaunting off into the great unknown and then waiting to see what each new day will bring and just how will this all unfold? I've found that with all great adventures comes a bit of restless, nervous energy. Now, running, yoga, and most recently parkour, have all been fantastic ways to funnel this incredible amount of energy that inevitably gets pent up. Sometimes though, I need to turn that energy into "something", gifting a handmade bit of love, oh there's just nothing like it. And that's where spinning and knitting come in handy, especially when in the car, or hotel room...day after day.
So ::making lemonade:: today we have in the first photo a handspun natural, red, yellow, green, yarn that is almost completely knitted into a neck scarf, for those extra chilly scooter rides to come.
Second photo, some experimental yarns, wool silk blends, and a naturally dyed rainbow wool that I finally have the
Third photo, a quick knit, bulky, thrifted yarn that I picked up on the island. After hunting around a few different knitting sites I had a fairly good idea about the style of this bag, made it up as I went along, and created the oversized coconut button from a found coconut shell. It was suprisingly easy and much softer than wood to work with. I just love the lighter colored specks..
And lastly, our littlest, helping to lay out some past knits that I forgot to photograph, and those strawberry mittens are going to be revisited in an up coming post, since I have two girls who have outgrown their warm mama knits, and have requested these exact mittens, please! They really do grow too fast...

possibilities
About a month or so ago, feeling rather despondent about our circumstances in hawaii, and with the (then) current out look being rather gloomy. I took out my pens and began this little flip book, to cheer myself up. I began with the simple idea that:It was possible (and rather simple) to leave our island home people left every day, in fact, commercial flight paths over our home being a constant reminder. So, I began to sketch out the flight path our plane would take, and where I would hope to arrive. And it did work, every time I looked at this little book I smiled and thought "it's possible".
Then christsmas day arrived and my favorite present by far were our six one way plane tickets(plus pets), yes, we were finally going home.
So, my question is this. If it is possible that just by sketching out a hope or dream and looking at it with a new found joy and clarity, instead of worry and doubt, That is all it really takes to take these dreams into reality?
Hmmm...a farm sure would be lovely....

the hunt continues
How could I forget just how very much I love trees?!! These trees are just so beautiful even if it is winter and most are bare, I can't wait to see them in the spring...ooo, and the fall colors must be brilliant!
The house hunting continues. I'm keeping my spirits high, practicing gratitude, and staying positive(the trees!) After all its only been three days, there just has to be a perfect home here for us, I just know it!
:: fingers crossed::

finding, home...
one day left
Right in the middle of our last days now, all the last minute packing, and running around is finally behind us.
Time to stop, take a breath, and share some of our local family favorites with you, come join us as we say goodbye.
:: that was my post :::
Yet as traveling with four kids and two pets goes, we have left Oahu and have landed in our new homeland. So all my dreamy goodbye posts got left behind for last minute meetups with dear friends, and of course lots of rushing around and shuffling of bags.
We're on the go rental car, hotel room and looking for our new home...fingers crossed...
I'll keep you posted with the updates and more pictures as we get things figured out.
It's sooo good to be cold again!!!!

hello 2012 and goodbye Hawaii
Yes, it's true our bags are packed and we are ready for this new year and all the new adventures that come with moving to a new place!
Our year (14 months) here in Hawaii has been suprising, amazing, beautiful, at times challenging, and most of all, has brought our family closer together than ever before. We have made some very dear friends, have experienced so many breath taking views, and wondered in awe at the native birds and fish, and yes, we even swam with a sea turtle....amazing.
The sun never quits here on oahu, and the water is always the most lovely shade of turquiose, we leave here with hearts full of gratitude for this island paradise, and all of the wonderful memories.
Some of the last island creations, right before the sewing machine was packed away
above:fabric hair clips for the girls, cause a girl needs to have accessory options for travel, right?
below: I've been drawing alot this year, and decided I could use a fabric travel case for all those fun markers that seem to be mysteriously multiplying? Hmm..well, that and, any excuse to use vintage buttons, they are my favorite!
Also, in keeping a promise to myself, call it a new years resolution, I'm bringing my yoga mat, nevermind all the bags we are already bringing, or the two pets and four kids...yes, there will be room(and time) for yoga, especially acro yoga... Yes! and running.
This was the very last sewing project here on Oahu, I couldn't resist giving that little tangerine a face, well, I had my markers right there you know, in that little case... ahh, organization. The quote on top is from our favorite yoga song Dance for the sun by Kira Willey, whenever this song comes on Pandora everyone stops what they are doing(yes, even me) and we all giggle and do a sun salutation together. I tell you just that little song and ritual has turned many a frown upside down and you know I think the kids really like it too!
