Naked cow dairy

We enjoyed a wonderful time at the farm with our new friends today. The long bus ride to and from has this mama pretty worn out. So, to sum up all awesomeness please enjoy these photos of our deleriously happy little ones with the world's cutest baby goats.

happy day

I am learning play time Every Day is important, no ..make that crucial, for me. Yes, even "grown -ups" need to play and have fun, in whatever way that translates, every day and not just on weekends. For me that means - you guessed it..makin'somethin' ;)
Time spent creating always gives me an extra and much needed boost of energy, most especially when I can make something useful for everyday. Like this little balloon bag I just whipped up in a wonderful sewing frenzy that spontaneously occurred yesterday while the little ones were quite joyfully engaged in other activities. Of course, immediately after these shots were taken this little bag was dumped out, and traveled all around the house to serve many other purposes I hadn't intended, so I just had to get busy making another. I fell in love, which happens sometimes when I am making things for others, and adopted this second bag as my newest knitting on the go bag. ;)
A super fun thrifting adventure this last weekend brought us this little girl, and while she was only a dollar, she is by far the new favorite in our house (mine too :) that said, she was in desperate need of attire, and with plans for many more dresses in the very near future, I made her this simple little dress that turned out so cute considering I just began to cut and sew with out any pattern(::first time:: yikes!) I was so glad to search through some of my vintage snaps and use the teeniest size for the back closure, and made use of some lace I had just trimmed off of a thrifted dress I had recently altered for Liora.
::note to self:: Next time, remember to stitch the arm holes first, Before piercing the bodice together! Those tiny handstitches were tough I kept poking my finger tip!
All in all, my day sprinkled with sewing in between around and during all of our normal routines, left me (surprisingly) with more energy and not less, come nightfall and oh, so very happy.

..in the studio

Come on in and take a look around, here is my little creative corner where dreams come true and magic abounds. Please, while you enjoy your stay, pay no attention to the drastic changes in lighting, this "quick little photo shoot", that was supposed to be yesterdays' post managed to take ..the.. entire ..day, between my camera phone, the bright Hawaiian sun and this teeny (yet lovely) six by eight foot space this is the best I could do. That new camera has definitely climbed up to the top of my wish list after yesterday ;)

movie monday

Friday morning with the wonderful surprise of a three day weekend stretched out in front of us, compliments of some serious overtime happening all week. I awoke early with all the enthusiasm and energy that some extra time together always seems to create. So planning on getting a run in "before" the day got going I quietly, on tip toe, and with much whispering went to rouse my eldest from his dreamy slumber -and of course, then managed to wake everyone else in the process, so much for quietly slipping out the door. With a hearty send off, and promises of a swift return we made it outside and into the sunshine. So come,  join us for our little 4 mile run around Diamond Head

Sundays with Yarno the Superdog

Every Sunday we load up and head out for the long drive across the island to the animal quarantine facility.
Always happy to see us, does he sense our arrival somehow?
So good to be near him feel his tiny heart thumping away.
This gentle being resting on my lap I relax and am almost convinced  that I am home knitting with him here in his favorite spot. There is a gorgeous tail to be groomed, teeth to be brushed, maybe nails to be trimmed.
Then all too quickly it is time.Putting him down though, is hard . I know he is in good hands. Lots of loving and goodbye kisses. With us all on one side of the gate and him on the other the latch clicks into place.
For a seven pound dog he stand so tall as we promise to be back soon.
only 75 more days til' he comes home, 11 more Sundays with Yarno the Superdog

gung ho and letting go

Now, I don't know if it's time or children, that has initiated this shift. Hmm, maybe a combo of both? That whole "all or nothing, do or die, gung ho" attitude I have sported for so long has begun to fade and make way for a new way of being. This didn't happen over night mind you, did it have something to do with job loss, maybe it started after that with the loss of our house, or the loss of our beloved pets...hard to say there was a "moment when". Yet, somewhere in there and in the process of moving here, with out knowing it, I had begun to let go. Relaxing into the moment no matter how wacky or new it may be, actually started my okayness with so much of what used to get me all worked up into a busy busy frenzy, focused on what should or could be and really going for it no matter the cost.  Fitness has been one of these hot buttons for me. I grew up dancing, classical ballet from two until age twelve. That fire and drive and love of movement has transformed over the years and now is centered around yoga and long distance running. There is something quite addictive to the meditation that is running, and because of that I can find myself pushing too hard, run faster run further, run faster and further...tomorrow! Short term there was great satisfaction, setting goals and reaching them is a great thing. Long term, a single focus on improvement begins to hint at never good enough. Mid run-my very first on the island, my trusty bike riding partner spies a monument just across the field from our path, usually the response would be "go ahead check it out but catch up quick, gotta keep up my pace" it just took a half a moment for me to say "yeah" and then tag along across the wet grass, where the monument wasn't the one he had hoped for but where we discovered these delicate little fan like mushrooms and shared a good laugh trying to capture that beauty on a camera phone. priceless.
With my running I still have all that drive, focus and lofty goal setting and now it's also met with pause and savor.
